HILL STATION OF KERALA

Munnar Hill

Munnar is located at the converginMunnar Hillsg point of three mountain tributaries namely, Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. This is one of the most beautiful hill stations of Kerala. Nature blossoms and thrives in full form in Munnar.
Munnar placed in the the Kannan Devan hills is a small hill station located to the eastern part of Kerala. The hill station is situated at an altitude of 1524m above sea level and lies 130 kms east of Kochi and borders the state of Tamil Nadu. Famous for the lush greenery surroundings,
Munnar is extremely beautiful and is considered the heaven of peace and tranquility. The amalgamation of the three mountain streams namely the Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala makes it a wonderful hill resort of the country.

Munnar was the favourite tourist destination of the then British rulers in colonial India. Spread by an unending expanse of tea plantations with valleys and mountains, Munnar also possess exotic species of flora and fauna along with the rare Neelakurunji plant offering an exhilarating colour to the mountain region. Nearby lies the Eravikulam National Park which is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr seen freely moving on the grasslands or climbing the undulating hills.

Mattupetty Hill StationMattupetty Hill Station

Situated at a height of 1700 m Mattupetty is famous for its highly specialised dairy farm, the Indo-swiss live stock project. The Mattupetty lake and dam , just a short distance from the farm, is a very beautiful picnic spot. The sprawling Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are other attractions in the vicinity.

Pothamedu (6 km from Munnar)
Pothamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here is ideal for trekking and long mountain walks.

Devikulam Hill StationDevikulam Hill Station

This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing. Devikulam hill station which is located at a height of 1800 meters above sea level and is around 16 kilometers from Munnar in Kerala. The Devikulam hill station in Munnar is famous for its mineral water springs and the beautiful landscape it has offer. 

Elaveezhapoonchira Hill StationElaveezhapoonchira

This hill station is 60 kms away from Kottayam. This is another best place in Kerala to witness both the sun rise and sunset. Elaveezhapoonchira means valley where leaves don’t fall and is names so because the place has no trees. The land is locked between three beautiful hillocks Mankunnu, Kudayathoormala and Thonippara, Poonchira is a place of picturesque charm. According to the myth the pool here was a bathing place for Panchali the heroine of Mahabharata. The beautiful valleys of Poonchira spread across thousands of acres and the verdant landscape punctuated by the gigantic hills, is a unique feature of this land. During monsoon season, the water that gets accumulated over a wide area looks like a placid lake, reflecting the rain clouds and the majestic mountains. The pristine beauty of nature is preserved almost intact in this small region. 

Kundala Hill StationKundala Hill Station

Kundala is a picturesque town on the way to Top Station. The Golf Course which belongs to Tata Tea Ltd. is located here. The Kundala artificial dam is another attraction. Aruvikkad Waterfall is also near Kundala.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (60 km from Munnar)

Situated on the Tamil Nadu border, the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is spread across 90.44 sq km.

Ponmudi Hill StationPonmudi Hill Station

Location : About 61 km from Thiruvananthapuram city,south Kerala.
Altitude : 915m above sea level. Ponmudi hill station is located within a short driving distance of Thiruvananthapuram, Ponmudi is an enchanting hill resort with narrow winding pathways and cool, green environs. Along with a beautiful array of mountain flowers, exotic butterflies and small rivulets,

Vagamon Hill Station : This Hill station is one of the most beautiful places in Thekkady and is a beautiful place and a much sought after tourist destination. The hill station is located at a height of around 1100 meters above sea level. Grass-Covered Hills, velvet lawns and the cool mountain air make Vagamon a perfect Holiday retreat destination. 

Idukki : This beautiful hill station located in Kerala. Idukki is the place you want to be to unwind and relax and forget all tensions of the world. The name Idukki has been derived from the Malayalam word "idukku", which means narrow gorge. The famous hill station Munnar and Thekkady are in this district. 

Thekkady : This is a beautiful place located in central Kerala. While you travel to Thekkady, you will see nature in its purest form. Uninterrupted rows of lush green trees, chirping birds, velvety hills and stunningly beautiful landscape are what make Thekkady a hot tourism center. 

Peermedu : Peermedu is 35 kms from Thekkady and is the famous plantation town. This town derived its name from Peer Mohammed. A sufi saint and close associate of the erstwhile Royal Family of Travancore. Wide viatas of Tea , cardamom, rubber & Coffee plantations interspersed with silver cascade, sculptural rocks, meadows and mist – cloaked hilltops make peermedu an excellent tourist place among the world. 

Wayanad : Wayanad is situated at a height of 2100 meters above sea level in Kerala; this hill station is one of the most charming and calm hill stations of Kerala. The lush green vegetation, along with mist-clad hills and pure air will make your travel to Wayanad an unforgettable experience. 

Nelliyapathi : This is one of the fascinating hills and is 75kms. from the southeast of Plakkad, and is reached by traversing 23 hairpin curves having several vantage view points including Kesavan Para and Seethargundu. The dense and verdant forests harbour exotic wildlife. 

Vythiri : This hill station is tucked away at the Northeastern tip of Kerala. Its about 1300m above sea level is renowned for its coffee, Tea, Cardamom, Pepper and rubber plantations. Mist – Capped Mountain and breathtaking scenery dominate major scenic view. 

Lakkidi : This beautiful hill station is just 5kms. from Vithiri in Wayanad. The three things which add the magic of the journey are lofty peaks, gurgling streams and luxuriant forest. The place is the gateway to Wayanad and is situated 700 m above sea level at the crest of Thamarasseri Ghats Pass. 

Kottancherry : This Hill Station is 30kms. from the northeast of Kanhangad in Kasargod and is lying to the Cauvery. This is a lovely place is a favourite with nature lovers and Ecotourists. The nearby village of Konnakad with its rain forest and verdant surroundings is ideal for trekking.

Ranipuram : This hill station is 85kms. away from Kasaragod situated 750m above sea level. The place is famous for its trekking trails and varied vegetation- Evergreen Shola woods, monsoon forests & grasslands. The place was formerly known as Madathumala
