HONEYMOON IN KERALA BACKWATER

Scenes enroute are a varied lot - paddy fields, coconut lagoons, secluded islands, men on country boats busy fishing and shepherding their ducks to new pastures and school children being taken across the canal.

You can also step out of the boat and visit the village craftsmen while they are working to make coir. Taste the traditional Keralian food in one of these places, particularly the sea food.

KochiThiruvallam
Kochi is known as the Queen of Arabian Sea, Kochi has one of the best natural harbours in the world. All the islands that constitute a part of Kochi are interconnected by a network of backwaters canals and lakes. Cruising through them and viewing the Chinese fishing net, particularly during sunset, will elate you beyond expression.

This Backwater destination is on the banks of Vembanad Lake. 'Nature’s silent beauty provides a perfect setting here for contemplation' the words of Atal Behari Vajpayee our former Prime Minister after seeing Kumarakom the land of Backwater. Kumarakom Backwater, supposedly discovered just a decade ago, provides some splendid views of coconut groves, mangroves and paddy fields. The highpoint of the journey will be reaching the Pathiramanal Island which is around an hour's ride from the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary.

KollamKollam
Kollam is referred to as Swapnadesham by many of her faithful admirer, Kollam was once centering of cashew trade in Kerala. The beauty and serenity of this little jewel of Kerala has not faded out even a wee bit. The Backwaters in the Ashtamudi Lake and its canals is still as mesmerizing as it was years back.

Sasthamkotta Lake : This Lake is known as the ‘queen of lakes’ has the fresh Water Lake spreading over the area. It is situated 29 kms away from Kollam and spread over a huge area of 375 hectares. The major highlight of this lake is that it neither gets frozen during the winter season nor does it dries up in the summers. Throughout the year, the freshwater of this lake provides clean drinking water. For tourists, it is not just the scenic beauty and tranquility of the lake that is attractive; rather there is something else as well. An ancient Sastha temple (Ayyappa Temple) stands on its shore which is major draw for pilgrims to Kerala. 

Vembanad Lake : This Lake provides exciting opportunities for tourists to enjoy its calm beauty by taking up boating cruises. It is situated 12 km west of Kottayam and is one of the most famous lakes in Kerala. Kottayam houses a large number of rivers and canals that are interconnected. The houseboats on the Vembanad Lake move slowly and allow the tourists to soak in the surrounding beauty. Vembanad Lake and various other canals provide boating, canoeing, fishing and sight seeing. The vivid blue and green palm fringed backwaters of Kottayam is a main source of attraction to the tourists.
 
The Ashtamudi Lake : This Lake is another important lake in Kerala, which lies in Kollam district. It is called Ashtamudi because it has eight 'mudis'(channels). In form and nature this lake has its peculiarities. It has a length of 16 Kms. Kalladayar is an important river that flows into this lake. Through the Neendakara estuary Ashtamudi Lake finds its way into the sea. This Lake is considered the gateway to the Kollam backwaters as such tourists can hire a boat and sail into the quiet waters of the lake. It is another important lake in the state of Kerala that exudes a soothing beauty. The lake presents quiet an enchanting scene with the popular Chinese fishing net, Cheena Vala in the backdrop.

Akkulam Lake : This Lake is a favoured picnic spot with a children's park. Lazing around in the park and boating in the cool waters of the lake is extremely popular with the tourists here.

Pookot Lake : This Lake is at a distance of 3 km from south of Vythiri town and 13 km from Kalpetta, Pookot Lake is a primary attraction for anyone who sets his feet in the Wayanad region of Kerala. With huge mountains bordering it and tall trees providing a shade, the Pookot Lake presents a beauty that is pristine in every way. Boating on the calm waters of the Pookot Lake is also quiet an exciting option for tourists. Additional attractions include a freshwater aquarium with a number of colourful fish swimming in it, large variety of fish, a children's park and a shopping centre for handicrafts and spices. 

Alappuzha Lakes : A journey by boat through the lakes is a memorable experience. The watercourses are flanked by coconut trees, which leave and swing to the tune of gush. A ride by boat or by country craft from Changanassery to Alappuzha through Punnamada Lake will provide an unforgettable sight of some of the paddy fields and stretches of coconut palm groves.
